Staring into the Harvest Moon from the top of an Alentenjano hill, I wonder: „Aren‘t we humans just wanderers in a vast and mysterious universe?“

Sure, we have our belief systems, religions and science, which seems to be another religion, still we cannot understand the essence of our human nature. What is life? What is death? What comes after? Is there another world, a God or even the slightest meaning behind it?
These questions live in the hearts of many people I meet around Tamera, whose amazing 30-year birthday we are celebrating in 2025. Tamera is a community in Portugal. I live nearby and volunteer in one of its most beautiful expressions, the Terra Canis Dog Sanctuary, a project that has become more than a safe space for dogs. It is evolving into a sanctuary for both humans and animals, a place where we begin to remember what it means to be part of the Sacred Alliance of all Beings.
This alliance is not an abstract idea. It is a philosophy of understanding existence itself. It reminds us that we are not separate from creation, not above it, not its rulers, but rather its kin.

Somewhere along the journey of evolution we became outcasts from the paradise of creation, endowed with the Ego, an Entheogenic Ghost Observer, this strange inner ghost that makes us both self-aware and estranged from the living web around us. It is the part of us that wants to dominate instead of cooperate, that forgets that we are creatures, too, not only creators.
As long as we maintain this illusion of separation, we will suffer. As Leo Tolstoi once wrote:
“As long as there are slaughterhouses, there will be battlefields.”
This truth lives in the work we do at the Terra Canis Dog Sanctuary with our dogs, because every act of kindness you do towards another being is also an act of reconciliation with yourself. This deep knowing guides you back to your true nature. In the Here and Now we find a place where we can truly be ourselves.
Through dogs I have learned that Peace and Healing need each other and both begin with listening and being present. Dogs heal in a fluid egoless state: They do not question the meaning of life, they live it. They remind us of a state of innocence that we once knew and still carry inside us, when we dare to awaken in a mycelium of loving kindness. When we dare to do our Shadow Work.
As I prepare to travel to Germany for two months, I carry these feelings with me and the image of my Terra Canis Team, my friends, my truly inspired favorite people who like me love dogs and want to make a difference in their lives. We teach our dogs that humans can be kind and caring, to dogs and to each other, we dare to reconciliate.
If you would like to adopt a dog, visit the sanctuary, or simply learn more about our work, please feel free to reach out. I will be happy to help you. Thank you!
Dogs Heal is not only about dogs.
It is about returning into the circle of life,
as friends, as fellow Guardians of the Earth, as a vital part of the Sacred Alliance of all Beings. And I strongly believe that we are all just walking each other home, to quote Ram Dass, the great teacher.
Blessings!
